Interseción de la Virgen del Rosario.

A pesar de que los milagros obrados por la intercesión de la Santísima Virgen son incontables, uno en especial mereció la institución del Día de la Virgen del Rosario el día siete de octubre.

A leguas de distancia, en Roma, San Pío V imploraba el auxilio divino, por intercesión de la Madre de la Iglesia. Inspirado, el santo Papa pide al pueblo romano que rece el Rosario por la victoria de sus hermanos.

En determinado momento, mientras despachaba asuntos urgentes, pero con su atención toda colocada en el peligro que corría la Cristiandad, aquel venerable anciano interrumpe los trabajos bruscamente y se dirige a la ventana. Los circunstantes quedan perplejos, no comprenden la actitud. Reina el silencio por breve espacio de tiempo, roto por la afirmación aún más misteriosa del Pontífice: ¡vencemos en Lepanto!

Manda reunir a los fieles y preparar la conmemoración por la milagrosa victoria de Don Juan de Austria, comandante de la flota. Una solemne procesión tiene lugar en las calles de la Ciudad Eterna. Días más tarde, llegan los emisarios de la escuadra trayendo la noticia ya antes anunciada por los Ángeles. Poco después estaba instituida la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de las Victorias en el día 7 de octubre.

Un año más tarde, Gregorio XIII cambió el nombre para fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, y determinó que fuese celebrada en el primer domingo de octubre (día en que se venció la batalla en Lepanto). Actualmente la fiesta es celebrada en el día 7 de octubre.
