Escapulario del Carmen

Los grandes privilegios del Escapulario

El día 16 de julio de 1251, San Simón Stock suplicaba a Nuestra Señora ayuda para resolver un problema de la Orden  Carmelita, de la cual era Prior General. Mientras él rezaba, la Virgen apareció, trayendo el Escapulario en las manos y dijo estas confortantes palabras:

“Hijo amadísimo, recibe el Escapulario de tu Orden, señal especial de mi amistad fraterna, privilegio para ti y todos los carmelitas. Aquellos que mueran con este Escapulario no padecerán el fuego del Infierno. Es señal de salvación, amparo y protección en los peligros, y alianza de paz para siempre».

La Iglesia asumió al Escapulario e hizo de él una de las devociones más difundidas entre el pueblo de Dios.

En nuestra época de supersticiones, no es superfluo esclarecer que el Escapulario está lejos de ser un signo “mágico” de salvación. No es una especie de amuleto cuyo uso nos dispensa de las exigencias de la vida cristiana. No basta, por tanto, ponerlo al cuello y decir: “¡Estoy salvado!»

Es verdad que Nuestra Señora no puso condición alguna al hacer su promesa. Simplemente afirma: “Quien muera con el Escapulario no padecerá el fuego del infierno”. No obstante, para beneficiarse de este privilegio, es necesario usar el Escapulario con recta intención. En este caso, si en la hora de la muerte la persona estuviera en estado de pecado, Nuestra Señora providenciará, de alguna forma, que ella se arrepienta y reciba los sacramentos. ¡Es en esto que la misericordia de la Madre de Dios se muestra verdaderamente insondable!

Quien usa el Escapulario puede beneficiarse también de indulgencia plenaria (remisión de todas las penas del Purgatorio) el día en que lo recibe, en la fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, 16 de julio; de San Elías, 20 de julio; Santa Teresita, 1 de octubre; de los santos carmelitas, 14 de noviembre; San Juan de la Cruz, 14 de diciembre; San Simón Stock, 16 de mayo.

Protección en los peligros de la vida cotidiana

Nuestra Señora, la mejor de todas las madres, quiere para sus hijos devotos no solamente los beneficios espirituales, sino también los temporales. Así, quien porta su Escapulario recibe de Ella una protección especial en los peligros de la vida cotidiana.

Señal de alianza con Nuestra Señora

El Escapulario es una señal de alianza de Nuestra Señora y expresa nuestra consagración a Ella. Su uso es un poderoso medio de enfervorizar a los que viven en estado de gracia y de convertir a los pecadores.

Dios no deja sin recompensa ningún beneficio hecho a una persona necesitada, incluso un simple pedazo de pan dado a un indigente. Imagínese, entonces, como Él recompensará a quien ayude en la ¡salvación de un alma!

Como recibir y usar el Escapulario

1 – Cualquier sacerdote tiene poder para bendecir e imponer el Escapulario.

2 – Esa bendición e imposición valen para toda la vida, por lo tanto, basta recibirlo una vez.

3 – Cuando el Escapulario se desgaste, basta sustituirlo por uno nuevo.

4 – Aún cuando alguien tenga la infelicidad de dejar de usarlo durante algún tiempo, puede simplemente retomar su uso, no es necesaria otra bendición.

5 – Una vez recibido, él debe ser usado siempre, de preferencia en el cuello, en todas las ocasiones, aún mientras la persona duerme.

6 – En casos de necesidad extrema, como enfermos en hospitales, si el Escapulario le fuere retirado, el fiel no pierde los beneficios de la promesa a Nuestra Señora.

7 – En casos de peligro de muerte, aún un laico puede imponer el Escapulario. Basta recitar una oración a Nuestra Señora y colocar en la persona un escapulario ya bendecido por algún sacerdote.

8 – El Papa San Pío X autorizó sustituir el Escapulario por una medalla que tenga de un lado el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y del otro una imagen de Nuestra Señora. Pero la recepción debe ser hecha con el escapulario de tela.

Oración a Nuestra Señora del Carmen

Oh, Virgen del Carmen! Madre amorosa de todos los fieles, pero especialmente de los que visten vuestro sagrado Escapulario, en cuyo número tengo la alegría de estar incluido, interceded por mí junto a vuestro Divino Hijo.

Obtenedme que, después de una vida verdaderamente cristiana, expire revestido del santo Escapulario y, librándome del fuego del infierno, conforme prometisteis, merezca salir cuanto antes, por vuestra intercesión poderosa, de las llamas del purgatorio.

¡Oh, Virgen misericordiosa! Vos dijisteis que el Escapulario es nuestra defensa en los peligros, es señal de vuestro amor y de alianza para siempre entre Vos y vuestros hijos. Haced, pues, que el Escapulario me una perpetuamente a vos y libre para siempre mi alma del pecado.

En prueba de mi reconocimiento y fidelidad, me ofrezco todo a vos consagrándoos en este día mis ojos, mis oídos, mi boca, mi corazón y todo mi ser.

Y porque os pertenezco enteramente, guar­dadme y defendedme como hijo y siervo vuestro. Amém.
